This work of fiction portrays the life experiences of a renowned writer, Gustav von Aschenbach after he sets out on a journey to Venice. Although the purpose of his trip was to seek spiritual fulfilment and artistic inspiration, he gradually develops an obsession towards a glamorous Polish boy, Tadzio. He initially describes his attraction towards Tadzio as completely aesthetic but his obsession grows uncontrollably with time and ultimately leads to his doom.
