Synopsis

Bell Bottom is loosely based on true events that date back to the 1980s. Anshul Malhotra is a RAW agent who is brought on board for a covert mission. An Indian flight is hijacked by jihadi terrorists at the behest of a terrorist organisation. These terrorists take the plane to Dubai to avoid any risks. But Anshul and his team plan to do the unthinkable thus conducting an operation on foreign soil. A must watch for the thrill and action sequences.

Highlights

Anshul Malhotra is a Punjabi man who is happily settled in his life. He lives with his wife and mom. Anshul by profession is a professor in a particular institution. But everything changes for him when his mom dies during a plane hijack. Even India is laden with many such hijacking events in the 1980s. This brings great distress among the government and the bureaucratic institutions. While Anshul is eventually hired by RAW. He goes through intense training for the profile. Similarly, another Indian plane is hijacked and it is taken to Dubai from Lahore, Pakistan. A furious Indira Gandhi wants to bring the hostages back safely as the elections are going to be held in the coming days.

That is when Bell Bottom is called for the solution. Bell Bottom is the code name of Anshul Malhotra. He presses Indira Gandhi for the negotiations to take place in Dubai led by an Indian delegation. He and other Indian officers and diplomats fly to Dubai for the negotiations. However, Anshul has something different going on his mind as to save the hostages and also get hold of those Pakistani terrorists. He plans a difficult mission to break the chain of hijacks. In the process, he goes through various emotions of revenge, betrayal, lack of cooperation and race against time.
Bell Bottom has promised Indira Gandhi to complete everything by the evening but with only a few hours in his hand, can he be able to pull off the historic mission?

Positives

It feels like Akshay Kumar has been made for such roles revolving around the rescue missions and saving the pride of India. Akshay Kumar yet again delivers in style. Other cast members like Adil Hussain and Huma Qureshi to0 deliver in their respective roles.

The music has been a major talking point of the movie. The beats and the timing of the music are just perfect in this one. It will certainly make you listen to groovy music multiple times.

Negatives

Such movies' success always depends on the VFX and other effects. And in Bell Bottom, the VFX and other needed effects are just below average. They do not even stand at the stage of average. Since the movie was released in theatres exclusively, the experience is even worse on the very big screen.

Bell Bottom is quite interesting but the right amount of balance is not there. The first half is just average but it is in the second half when the movie catches its pace with a brilliant intensity. If the writers could have made the first half a bit more interesting then the movie could have garnered a 5 on 5 on the charts.

Conclusion

Bell Bottom will keep you on your toes but only in the second half. It is a definite watch for the brilliant storyline and also for the action-packed thrilling encounters.
