Synopsis

It is a story of a boxer named Aziz Ali urf Ajju Bhai who rises from the land of poverty and follows his passion for boxing. Aziz in his journey faces different hurdles and many emotional setbacks but he constantly tries to overcome them and he indeed keeps coming back to achieve the ultimate goal of winning the National Championship of Boxing held in New Delhi. Filled with emotions, the story will definitely motivate you to do more and follow your passion.

Highlights

Aziz Ali is seen in a local thug-like role near his area in suburban Mumbai. He is usually involved in beat ups and he often ends up in the local hospital where he meets Ananya Prabhu who is a doctor. Ananya is often annoyed by the Gunda-like activities of Aziz. While he watches boxing in a small ring of a Parsi friend, he develops an interest in the sport. Ananya prompts Aziz to choose the right path and leave the ‘Gunda Gardi’ activities. Aziz trains hard and slowly gains skills.

He meets Nana Prabhu who is regarded as the number one trainer in Maharashtra. At first, Nana doesn't like Aziz but slowly develops respect towards Aziz for his craze towards the sport. Nana trains Aziz for the State level Championship and he even wins it which paves Aziz's way towards the National Championship. While parallelly Aziz and Ananya's love story keeps moving ahead. Ananya's dad who is also the coach of Aziz comes to know about the love affair which doesn't end well. Aziz's next chapters are filled with emotional and career-related setbacks. But Aziz's resilience takes him back to the top.

Positives

The story will create a lot of emotional outbursts in you but it will definitely motivate you to go all out for that ultimate goal. The story teaches a lot of life lessons by its different characters that seem to resemble a lot. It introduces different scenarios of life and showcases the effect of each decision taken and its consequences. All apart, the message is clear, live your dream like never before no matter what anyone says or feels about you. Present matters.

Farhan Akhtar stands out in his performance and portrayal of Aziz Ali. Farhan had even trained hard for the role with all the boxing moves in the ring and the muscle building as well. Paresh Rawal as Nana Prabhu has played his part beautifully. While Vijay Raz has once again stood out with a serious role.

Negatives

Toofan sadly doesn't offer anything different from all the other sports movies out there. The story is too predictable and sometimes unrealistic too. It's quite out of touch with reality when Aziz comes back to boxing after remaining out of it for 5 years and climbs up the success ladder like he is the young Aziz he once was. While past his prime, Aziz manages everything with ease. Haven't we heard such unrealistic stories very often?

The music of the movie is quite unbalanced with the theme of the movie. While the music of sports-themed movies always seems to stand out with the pace and everything but sadly it doesn't in Toofan. The music provided by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is unfortunately below the bar in this one.

Conclusion

The movie is a good watch for all the motivation and getting out of your comfort zone but the story is going to emotionally drain you out which is the most unbearable part of it.

Our Rating of the movie is 3/5
