Synopsis

Joe Goldberg seems like a normal bookstore manager but eventually, his stalking skills, obsession, delusional love for any girl he falls in love with come to light. He eventually becomes a serial killer, removing any obstacle or person who comes between him and his lover. This show frightens you as to the extent to which social media can make your life public and its dire consequences. The narrative by Joe also gives an insight into his mind and obsession which makes it even more intriguing to watch.

Highlights

The budding couple, Joe and Love have finally moved away from California and have started a new life at Madre Linda. Love is a mom now with a cute baby boy named Henry. Love's mom also likes to call the baby Forty in remembrance of her late son Forty. However, Joe is still back to his usual flirting with other women. This happens when he meets his new neighbour Natalie who is a married woman. Though she is married, her husband is hardly at home due to various business trips. But when Love finds out about Joe and Natalie, she kills Natalie and the fresh start is just thrown away due to her emotional tantrums. A similar death in Madre Linda takes place due to Joe and Love's involvement.

Both the young parents try to start again with Love opening a bakery and Joe working at a nearby library. At some point, Love starts an affair with Natalie’s stepson. Theo is a college-going student who shares time with his dad in grief over the death of Natalie. While on the other hand, Joe starts an affair with his boss Madeline who is a single mom busy fighting the case against her ex over the custody of her daughter. Love and Joe are unaware of their respective lives since they are constantly involved in some or the other problems. But what will happen when the psychopath duo learns about their partner's affair? All hell is about to break.

Positives

Penn Badgley perfectly portrays the sociopath character of Joe. He is the strongest pillar of the show. While Victoria Pedretti is in another league this season. Her portrayal of a caring mom, a jealous wife will make your heart warm as well as tense. The duo is just too perfect.

The show retains its witty dark humour through the writers. The story is funny and yet thought-provoking in season 3.

Negative

There is just too much violence and blood in the storyline. Plus the detailing of these incidents in the show is a very problematic and unbearable one.

You has retained its 10 episodes per season feature but by doing so, they have hampered the quality. A lot of unnecessary stretches in the story can be witnessed in the latter part of the season.

Conclusion

You series retains its dark and funny humour in its third season which is excellent but a few mishaps in the story will leave you emotional.

Ratings - 3.5/5
