This movie is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist and entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu. ‘Padman’ brings to light the taboos surrounding menstruation and the impact a single person can bring forth in improving the hygiene of so many women all over India. The protagonist of this movie challenges the rigid social norms and is in turn humiliated for his efforts. He is disrespected by his own family and villagers, which also leads to his separation from his wife.
