Synopsis

Otis is an unpopular student in his high school but decides to turn his life around as he starts giving sex advice and tips to his fellow students from the knowledge he has gained because of his mother Jean who is a sex therapist. He does this with the help of his gay best friend Eric and a socially outcast girl, Maeve. This show has become a popular part of Netflix due to its critical acclaim and audience likeability.

Highlights

The Moordale High school students are back from their summer break. A lot has happened over the summer revolving around various equations of many relationships. Eric and Adam are happily together spending quality time. While Otis and Maeve have grown more distant from each other due to last season’s mishap. They try to forget each other and move on. Otis has already started having a casual friend with benefits kind of relationship with Ruby. However, things take a drastic change after the departure of Michael Groff.

A new headteacher is brought in the form of Hope who is also a former student of Moordale High. She vows to change the tag of ‘sex school’ provided by the press in England. And in that process, she creates an authoritative regime that enforces everything in a patriarchal way. On the other hand, Jean Milburn is pregnant with her separated partner Jakob Nyman. She is clueless about whether to continue her pregnancy or not.
However, she decides to go ahead with it and gets back together with Jakob to raise the newborn. Ola and Jakob move in with Otis and Jean Milburn. However, in a larger context, nothing seems to work out in the lives of the Moordale high school students.

Positives

Sex Education has cemented its legacy in the OTT arena. The show is even being counted as one of the best coming-of-age shows in history. And rightly so, Sex Education deserves all the praise. The brightest aspect of this show is its commentary revolving around sensitive issues.

The show has brought a new and brighter change with its bold content. It brings sexual awareness among young adults which empowers them with knowledge. It speaks about the dated connotation that comes with being a man and woman and the traits one should have.

Sex Education honestly speaks to a large population that feels suffocated in merely expressing themselves for their personal choices. The show also sheds light on several hurdles that the teen face that is barely talked about, especially in India.

Negatives

There are a lot of unnecessary subplots, especially revolving around Lily and the alien stuff. The show needlessly prolonged such subplots for a long duration and even without any particular concrete conclusion.

The writing in the third season has been a major letdown. Sex Education season 3 has not lived up to its previous two seasons in terms of writing. There seems to be a lot of confusion with the development of various characters like Otis, Maeve, and Ruby.

Conclusion

This season of Sex Education is as bold as predicted but the poor writing and plots are nowhere near to its previous two seasons. But it is still worth a watch for teenagers.
